The fables of Phaedrus
by Anonymous
Aesop is credited with inventing animal fables, but the earliest written versions are by Phaedrus, apparently a slave, who introduced them to Latin literature in the time of Augustus. Many other story- types are also included. The last translation into English verse was 200 years ago.
