Sister Carrie
by Theodore Dreiser
The story of a young woman leaving her small-town home to go to a large city and her subsequent experiences are identifiable even today. The presence of words not common in the present day was interesting. With the use of the embedded dictionary, the definitions of unfamiliar words are available and lend additional enjoyment to the reading. The engaging story is difficult to put down. This is a classic to be savored. Although written about a long ago past, sadly, it remains true for both the individual and society today. Dreiser creates indelible characters, paints a picture that is clearly seen in minds eye and engenders emotions that last well beyond the last page.
