Heart of Darkness
by Joseph Conrad
A compelling story reaching into the unspoken depths of the place in man's soul where, sometimes, greatness seems both noble and tragic. The most beautifully-written, memorable and perhaps meaningful novella I have ever had the pleasure of reading. If you're a fan of dark, complex classic literature, I would highly recommend giving it a read. Still sharp, pensive, astonishing after all these years. Read first as an undergraduate, then hastily when a graduate student. Cast my theoretical apparatus upon it and passed on to deeper thought. That was really a heart of darkness. Conrad remains the navigator of language and inexpressible meaning.
