LEFT FRONT: Cast on 46 sts. 1st ROW: * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row. Repeat 1st row 6 times (seed st). START PATTERN: 1st ROW (right side): 3 seed sts, P 2, K 4, P 2, * K 1, P 2, K 4, P 2, repeat from * twice, work 8 sts in seed st for front border. Work in pattern as established working 8 border sts in seed st throughout until front measures same as back to underarm ending at armhole edge. SHAPE ARMHOLE: Bind off 4 sts at armhole edge. Keeping continuity of pattern work even until armhole measures 2½ inches ending with 9th pattern row. Cut yarn. SHAPE NECK: Beg at neck edge, place 17 sts on holder, continue in pattern dec 2 sts at neck edge every other row 3 times—19 sts. Work even until armholes measure same as back ending with 9th pattern row. SHAPE SHOULDER: Bind off 19 sts. Mark position for 5 buttons evenly spaced on left front edge, 1st buttonhole ¾ inch above lower edge, and the last buttonhole ¾ inch below neck edge.
